Farnworth Grammar School

Forty years on — and then some...
An internet success story

Contributed by Bill Clarke, Frank Coucill and Edwin Knight

The first photograph shows three sixth-formers and two non-FGS friends enjoying a Butlin's holiday in 1955. The second one shows the same three enjoying a liquid lunch in Canterbury 47 years later. They had re-established contact via the internet, and this was the first time the three had got together since they left FGS.

The third photograph was added later by Edwin Knight, who says that it was taken during the same 1955 Butlin's holiday. An alternative hypothesis suggests that it actually shows participants in a course offered by the school in the 1950s with the aim of preparing sixth-formers for suitable gainful employment.
