FGS: familiar and not so familiar

The first sketch shows the familiar FGS building which was demolished in 1988 by order of the vindictive vandals of the local authority. Bill Clarke has written to say that the absence of the flat-roofed extension built in 1938 to house the Library and the Biology Lab suggests that this 1984 sketch was probably based on a drawing or photograph from the mid-1930s.

Arnold says that the artist was an ex-pupil. Does anyone recognise his/her signature?


The second sketch shows the building that housed FGS in the early 18th century. It is in Albert Road and it is still standing. Perhaps the local worthies of the time simply weren't as small-minded as their 1988 successors...
