Farnworth Grammar School

LUMEN, Summer Term 1953

The magazine was contributed by Winifred Fielding

This issue marks the departure of the then Senior Master, Mr. Friday, who served FGS for no fewer than 28 years, together with that of Mr. Allenby, his colleague in the Physics department. It also records the return of the school's stolen silverware, and reports on the unveiling of the school's Honours Board by FGS's long-serving headmaster Mr. Wilson, who returned from well-earned retirement to perform the ceremony.

I've reproduced four excerpts and an advertisement; please scroll down to see them.

...Farnworth Co-op's classy advertisement, featuring "Deferred Terms from 1/6 per week."
Notes for younger readers: Deferred Terms was the genteel name for credit; 1/6 was 7½p.
