1950 Tennis Report

From a copy of Lumen lent by Ron Hodson

This season has been most successful up to date, but we still have several more matches to play. We wish to express our thanks to the members of staff who have helped us, and also to the girls who have made lunches.

Team Criticisms

LILIAN LLOYD Has a powerful forehand drive and reliable backhand, but her service still needs practice.

ALICE THORNLEY Alice has made a good captain and has become a reliable member of the team, though her service and backhand are still weak. Her ability to place the ball, and her coolness, win many points in matches.

ALICE WESTHEAD Alice is a very powerful player with a very strong service and good drive, but her footwork is not quick enough.

JOAN VICKERS Joan's play is of a very high standard, and she is quite good as a net player. She should be more careful with her placing.

MADELINE HOWARTH Madehne's service has improved tremendously this season, and her backhand is quite good. Her forehand still needs practice.

IVY MORGAN Ivy is becoming quite useful at net, and her play on the whole is good, although she is rather erratic, and is inclined to overswing her raquet, and serve double faults.

BRENDA WARDLE and MARIE GASKELL have been useful as umpires, and have occasionally helped out the team. Both players show promise.
