1949 Sports Day Report

From a copy of Lumen lent by Ron Hodson

The Annual Sports were held this year on June 15th, on a cloudy, but warm and dry day. County Councillor R. H. Rowlands, Chairman of the Governors, presided, and presented the trophies.

Competition in the running, high and long jumping, and cricket ball throwing, was keen and spirited ; and enjoyed as much by the contestants as by the spectators, who included a large number of parents and friends. Grace of movement and determination of purpose combined to provide many a stirring experience.

After presenting the trophies, County Councillor R. H. Rowlands in a short speech, expressed his pleasure at being present, and pointed out how the school had given practical proof of its purpose to work hard and play hard ; and how the animating spirit in these sports, was to do one's best for the sake of doing one's best, with the honour of the House as the only reward.
