1949: Five Men and a Dog

Contributed by Frank Gorton

Point to a face to see the name.

A note on the back of this photograph says that these masked brigands are "...dissecting a dead sheepdog..." which, according to Frank, had been killed on the road outside the school. Mr. Wilson, on being told why Frank had come to school carrying a dead dog in a sack, is said to have remarked that he devoutly hoped no-one was ever run over near the school or they might find themselves on the slab before the ambulance could arrive.

Editor's Note: Having promised to publish whatever I get, I shall make no comment — but isn't the would-be pathologist on the right operating with the aid of a football pump?
P.S. Several people have written to say that they remember this event taking place — so once again I must eat humble pie. I really am becoming a cynical old man
