Elsie Entwistle's mother was the school's Cook in the 1930s. Here are a few pages from the notebook in which she kept her records.

This is Mrs. Entwistle's accounts page for Thursday October 31 1935.
The lunch menu was steak & kidney pudding, carrots and potatoes, with rice pud & marmalade for dessert. This two-course meal was served to 10 staff and 34 pupils, each of whom paid the equivalent of 3½p in today's money. The total outlay (ingredients and a day's pay) was just over £1 and the meal showed a profit of nine shillings, or 45p.

A week later, the lunch menu was steak pie, sprouts and potatoes, with currant sponge and sauce for dessert. The meal was served to 45 people, each of whom again paid the equivalent of 3½p in today's money. Total outlay once again was just over £1 and the meal showed a profit of 45p.

Finally here is Mrs. Entwistle's accounts page for the week ending Thursday October 31:
Gross profit for the week was £1.46. After deducting the week's expenditure (11p for insurance, 12p for laundry, 5p to the school caretaker Mr. Hughes and one day's wages (45p), Mrs. Entwistle was left with a healthy profit of 74p.
